Ciprofloxacin (Quinobid™) is a synthetic broad spectrum antimicrobial agent for oral administration. Ciprofloxacin, a fluoroquinolone, is the monohydrochloride monohydrate salt of 1-cyclopropyl-6-fluoro-1, 4-dihydro-4-oxo-7-(1-piperazinyl)-3-quinolinecarboxylic acid. It is a faintly yellowish to light yellow crystalline substance with a molecular weight of 385.8.


What is Quinobid and what is it used for?

Before you take Quinobid, Do not take this medicine and tell your doctor if

You are allergic to any ingredient in ciprofloxacin or to other quinolones.

Take special care while taking Quinobid

Do not take ciprofloxacin with dairy products such as milk or yogurt, or with calcium-fortified juice. You may eat or drink these products as part of a regular meal, but do not use them alone when taking ciprofloxacin. They could make the medication less effective.

Avoid taking the following medicines within 6 hours before or 2 hours after you take ciprofloxacin. These other medicines can make ciprofloxacin much less effective when taken at the same time:

  • antacids that contain magnesium or aluminum or the ulcer medicine sucralfate
  • didanosine powder or chewable tablets;
  • a phosphate binder such as lanthanum carbonate or sevelamer or
  • vitamin or mineral supplements that contain calcium, iron, or zinc.

How and when to take Quinobid

Quinobid should be taken as follows -

Acute sinusitis, typhoid fever: 500mg every 12hrs for 10 days. Lower respiratory tract, skin and skin structure infection: 500–750mg every 12hrs for 7–14 days. Intra-abdominal pain: 500mg every 12hrs for 7–14 days. Bone and joint pain: 500–750mg every 12hrs for at least 4–8 weeks. Infectious diarrhea: 500mg every 12hrs for 5–7 days. Acute uncomplicated cystitis due to E. coli, S. saprophyticus in females: 250mg every 12hrs for 3 days (oral forms only). Other UTIs: 250–500mg every 12hrs for 7–14 days. Prostatitis: 500mg every 12hrs for 28 days. Gonorrhea: 250mg once. Postexposure prophylaxis of inhalational anthrax: 500mg every 12hrs for 60 days (start as soon as possible after exposure).

If you forget to take Quinobid

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

If you stop taking Quinobid

To clear up your infection completely, continue using Quinobid for the full course of treatment even if you feel better in a few days.

Possible side effects

  • nausea, vomiting, diarrhea;
  • rash; or
  • abnormal liver function tests.

How to store Quinobid?

Store Ciprofloxacin tablets at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degres0C)
