What is Ovestin Table and what is it used for?

Ovestin® contains the natural hormone estriol which is used as a hormone replacement therapy (HRT) to treat menopausal atrophic vaginitis, reducing symptoms like vaginal dryness, itching, irritation and inflammation and increased susceptibility to vaginal or urinary infections.

Before you take Ovestin Tablet, Do not take this medicine and tell your doctor if

You are taking cytochrome P450 enzymes, such as anticonvulsants (e.g. hydantoins (phenytoin), barbiturates (phenobarbital), carbamazepine, anti-infectives (e.g. griseofulvin, rifamycins (rifampicin, rifabutin), and antiretroviral agents (nevirapine, efavirenz)), Ritonavir and Nelfinavir.

Take special care while taking Ovestin Tablet if you

  • have a close family history of breast cancer (eg mother, sister or grandmother has had the disease).
  • have a history of benign breast lumps (fibrocystic breast disease).
  • have a history of fibroids in the womb.
  • have a history of endometriosis.
  • have a history of overgrowth of the lining of the womb (endometrial hyperplasia).
  • have a personal or family history of blood clots in the veins (venous thromboembolism, eg deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism).
  • are taking medicines to prevent blood clots (anticoagulants), eg warfarin.
  • have a personal or family history of recurrent miscarriage.
  • are very obese.
  • are smokers.
  • have a long-term condition called systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
  • have high blood pressure (hypertension).
  • have raised levels of fats called triglycerides in the blood (hypertriglyceridaemia).
  • have a history of liver disease, eg liver cancer.
  • have decreased kidney function.
  • have heart failure
  • are diabetic
  • have a history of gallstones.
  • have a history of migraines or severe headaches.
  • have epilepsy.
  • are asthma patient
  • have a history of an ear disorder that may cause hearing loss (otosclerosis)
  • have a history of irregular brown patches appearing on the skin, usually of the face, during pregnancy or p7revious use of hormone preparations such as contraceptive pills (chloasma).

How and when to take Ovestin Tablet

1st Week: Four tablets are taken daily at the same time

2nd Week: Three tablets are taken daily at the same time

3rd Week: Two tablets are taken daily at the same time

4th Week: One tablet is taken daily at the same time continued according to physician

If you forget to take Ovestin Tablet

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. Skip the missed dose if it is almost time for your next scheduled dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up the missed dose.

Possible side effects

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Breast tenderness or pain in the breasts
  • Vaginal bleeding or spotting during or on withdrawal of therapy
  • Excessive production of cervical mucus
  • Headache
  • May cause local irritation or itching at the beginning of treatment

How to store Ovestin Tablet

Store below 25°C but not in the fridge. Store it in the original package, in order to protect from light and moisture.
